ENABLE I

WOMAN’S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

The Enable‑I Project is building a sustainable model for women’s economic empowerment in South Africa’s underserved communities. By equipping women with practical skills, creating viable income‑generating opportunities, and linking enterprises to stable markets, the project strengthens household resilience and ensures children grow up in healthier, more secure environments.

At the heart of Enable‑I is a community hub, designed to host training, production, and enterprise development. Already, 80 women participants have been recruited, with strong community interest driving future expansion. After extensive consultation, three priority enterprise streams have been identified:

  • Sewing and garment production
  • Shoemaking
  • Recycling‑related enterprises

Key milestones achieved:

  • Two community sites secured, with a larger hub prioritised for full operations.
  • Infrastructure upgrades underway, including sanitation facilities and site improvements.
  • First cohort of women mobilised and ready for training.
  • Strategic partnerships established with schools, retailers, and local leadership to secure market access.
  • Dedicated project leadership appointed to drive implementation and sustainability.

By connecting women’s enterprises to reliable buyers—such as schools for uniform production—the project ensures that economic activity translates into real, lasting impact. Enable‑I is now moving from its establishment phase into implementation readiness, with infrastructure, participants, and partnerships in place.

This initiative represents more than income generation: it is about breaking cycles of poverty, strengthening families, and creating community‑owned opportunities that allow children to thrive in environments of stability and care.
