Our Story

One to One Africa was born out of the work of the One to One Children’s Fund in South Africa, Kosovo, and the Middle East. One to One Children’s Fund was established in 2000, in the aftermath of the war in Kosovo. It provided post-trauma counselling to some of the many children who desperately needed support to process the horror and brutality of what they had experienced. The organisation began work in South Africa in 2001, focusing primarily on paediatric HIV.

This led to 15 years of work in South Africa and regionally in partnership with other organisations such as PATA, the Small Projects Foundation and WhizzKids United. In 2014, One to One Africa was established with the aim of directly implementing programmes in South Africa. We build on the experience and expertise of One to One Children’s Fund while being responsible for the design, delivery and monitoring and evaluation of our programme.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to improve the well-being and life chances of children, young people and families affected by dislocation, poverty and chronic illness, such as HIV. We seek to address core gaps in physical and mental healthcare by developing innovative peer leadership models in neglected and under-served communities and using local knowledge to build the capacity of those best placed to respond. We aim to be a consistent beacon of good practice in our charitable mission and to scale up our work where appropriate so it is ultimately sustainable by governments or local NGOs.
